Your Rhinoplasty Procedure
General anesthesia or sedation is administered to ensure your comfort and safety during rhinoplasty surgery. Dr. McGinniss may use either an open or closed approach, depending on the complexity of the procedure. In a closed rhinoplasty, discreet incisions are made inside the nostrils. In an open rhinoplasty, another tiny incision is created on the columella, the section of tissue between the nostrils, allowing better access to the nasal structures. Dr. McGinniss will then reshape the nasal structures. He may use various techniques to modify the bone, cartilage, and soft tissues:
Cartilage Removal or Grafting: Cartilage may be removed or added to reshape the nasal tip or bridge. Grafts, usually taken from the septum or ear, may be used to provide additional support or improved contours.
Osteotomy: Controlled fractures of the nasal bones may be performed to narrow or straighten the nasal bridge.
Septoplasty: If a deviated septum is causing breathing problems, septoplasty can be performed to straighten the septum and improve airflow.
Nasal Tip Refinement: The surgeon may alter the shape, projection, and definition of the nasal tip to achieve the desired appearance.
